The Creative Spirit of John Curry

The Creative Spirit of John Curry

The experience of watching John Curry, Toller Cranston, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, working with Ice Theatre productions for over 10 years and the incredible collaboration with Balbir Singh on our previous flagship projects; Synchronised and Peacock Lake on Ice, has led me to produce, The Creative Spirit of John Curry.

Staging a pure Theatre on Ice Performance, where ice skating is presented as an art form, in all its beauty and intricacy, where the artists and dancers, each bring something special to the creation of this unique choreography, unlike any of the current commercial ice shows.

John Curry, Olympic Champion created an ice-skating revolution, being the first to blend the fluid balletic expressiveness with athletic virtuosity, turning ice skating into a beautiful art on ice. Described as Nureyev on ice, he possessed an artistry that spoke to a worldwide audience, with his Theatre of Skating performing in the Royal Albert Hall and the MET.

John Curry’s love of ballet and dance and his creative collaboration with many famous choreographers inspired me to produce The Creative Spirit of John Curry. Not just showcasing the art of ice skating, but highlighting the intricate fusion of art and dance, where the cast of skaters and dancers work as one ensemble, creating a magical theatrical experience for the audience.

The Creative Spirit of John Curry was the most ambitious and challenging production to date. At the same time, it was extremely exciting and inspirational. It has been a great privilege to work alongside Creative Director Balbir Singh, who is an amazingly talented choreographer, whose creative artistic vision and approach have been an enormous inspiration, as well as, an incredible learning experience. The dedication and determination of Balbir and his artistic team made this dream a reality.

My dream now is to have a touring Theatre on Ice, developing artistic ice skating as an art form through its collaboration with dance, which would then attract the young and new generation of ice skaters to skate not just for competitions and medals, but to engage and develop the pure artistry of ice skating, continuing the legacy of John Curry.
